Making money through the web seems rather easy, at first. At least, that’s until you see the financials and hard work that goes behind it, and then you realize… “Huh, maybe this whole ad revenue thing is much more intricate and fickle than it appears.” Changes in search algorithms, creating poor content, or a whoopsie by your ad provider could be deadly. Our Ezoic review explores how to avoid all that.
If you want to maximize your earnings by monetizing content with ads, our brief and concise advice is to simply sign up with Ezoic. Yep, it’s just that simple. But you might be asking yourselves, “who is this Ezoic, and what’s so special about them?” Good question, and one that we’ll explore with great depth in our Ezoic review. In summary, Ezoic is no doubt the best premium ad network out there at the moment.
Ezoic’s AI and machine learning focus primarily on optimizing the how-what-and-where of ads that are being displayed on your site. It looks simple on paper but it has had a monumental effect with a case study domain that we’ve been running with Ezoic for nearly a year and a half now. You might’ve already gone through our monthly reports, and noticed the huge monthly gains since we started.
Besides placing ads on your webpage, Ezoic does a lot more than that. They offer services to speed up the load times on your page, host rich media like videos, provide extensive analytics of how the site is doing, and so much more. With that being said, here’s a detailed look at all of this and more in our Ezoic review…

What Is Ezoic?
First off, let’s provide an introduction to Ezoic for those of you who aren’t yet aware. So, who is this Ezoic, and what do they offer? At its core, Ezoic is an online ad provider. By connecting your site to its system, you’re able to monetize your webpage by letting Ezoic embed ads. Through folks viewing the ads or clicking into them, you’ll then earn ad revenue. All pretty straightforward there, really.
Therefore, what makes Ezoic any different from the oh-so-popular Google AdSense, which has been the de facto provider of ads throughout the worldwide web? Or, how about other premium solutions that rival Ezoic, such as AdThrive or Mediavine? The key USP with Ezoic is that they adopt the use of AI and machine learning. In particular, with understanding your site and how to place ads onto it.
In layman’s terms, Ezoic’s systems could alter the location of ad banners (on which part of a page it’s shown), how many ads are to be displayed within a single page, and what type of ads finally go into those banners. It does this in real-time too, by extensively analyzing the behavior of your visitors and readers. Better still, Ezoic continually varies these settings on a user-by-user basis.
In other words, the placement, quantity, and context of the ads that you see are different from what another visitor-slash-reader sees. This method of personalization is practically set on autopilot once you’ve gone through the initial set-up. And, Ezoic will repeatedly improve itself over time. This gains better engagement and experience from visitors onto your site, which nets you higher returns.
What Are The Benefits Of Choosing Ezoic?
We’ll discover more as we go along, but in a nutshell, what benefits could your site stand to gain with switching over to Ezoic? Well, here are just a few noteworthy pointers to get you started for our Ezoic review:
- Improves the overall user experience by showing relevant and engaging ads to your visitors. While at the same time, doing this safely, securely, and without compromising their privacy.
- Maximizes the number of ads that are shown on a certain page, but without going overboard with a bit too many ads. The latter could very easily annoy and further alienate your readers.
- Uses AI and machine learning to tailor ads for every single visitor that logs onto your site. This helps to granularly tweak the right amount and type of ads to show, with higher clickthrough rates.
- Automated ad management, which only requires fine-tuning and manual interaction from you during the initial start-up phase. This ensures that you could spend less time having to set things up.
- Unlike their rivals, Ezoic is welcoming of all webpages, whether you’re a small up-and-coming site or a massive publication with millions of monthly pageviews. As such, they have programs and solutions that are best tailored for every client, and to help grow your traffic.
- They have bountiful incentives, especially for smaller publishers. You could leverage their grants program in covering the expense of making new content. Or, try out Ezoic’s guarantee that you’ll make at least 25% more in ad revenue… Or, they’ll pay the difference!
- An abundance of additional services is included (which we’ll go into detail later on) besides the ads. Rather than relying upon third-party solutions, you could just sign-up to Ezoic as a one-stop-shop for all that you need to manage your site effectively.
Does Ezoic Really Work That Well?
This then leads our Ezoic review to analyze its performance. So, does AI and machine learning really make that much of a difference with how Ezoic powers and manages online adverts? Yeah, and quite a lot, actually. So, let’s walk down memory lane to better understand this. We began back in October 2020, where prior to that, we relied solely on Google’s AdSense (September 2020 and earlier).
It was for our then-promising case study domain (which shall remain unnamed, but we’ll try to be as open and transparent as we can). Our last month with AdSense alone (back in September), we’d just earned around $177 in ad revenue. That’s for the entire 30-day period, mind you. But swapping over to Ezoic, we then brought in $606 in October – a mind-blowing increase within just a single month.
This never stopped or slowed down, either. In November, it skyrocketed to $961, before topping itself once more in February 2021, when we broke the four-digit mark. By mid-2021, we had netted a very impressive $5,000+, before leaping into the $11,000+ mark by December 2021. Since then, returns by placing ads powered by Ezoic have continually been on an upwards trend, and we could see more.

*January 2021’s steep drop in ad revenue was attributed to the typically brutal January CPMs, which tend to be lower than every other month. Plus, our case study domain suffered a DNS issue, which thus prevented us from monetizing anything for a short period.
How Much Have We Been Earning Through Ezoic?
As a round-up, this snapshot below shows our year-on-year ad revenue. This encompasses between February-March 2021 to February-March 2022, and the comparison is quite stark, to say the least. It continues to boggle the mind to see just how much we’ve managed to earn simply by migrating over to Ezoic’s premium ad network and reinvesting earnings into content. Back in those AdSense days, such returns could only be dreamed of.
In summary, our ad revenue for this 12 month period grew by nearly 1,350%. Or, roughly 2,400% if we stretch it back to October 2020. Meanwhile, our EPMV (earnings per thousand visitors) rose by a mighty 103%. In addition, our case study domain notched an eye-watering growth in 595% in pageviews.
The latter terminology is used by Ezoic to describe visitors that’ve spent a valuable amount of time on your site. Specifically, at least 10 seconds. Now, the huge leap in growth that we’ve experienced was partly thanks to Ezoic. Their system, at this point in time, has gotten to grips with how to best show ads on our site and has allowed us to maximize our return-on-investment through its adverts.
At the same time, it’s also attributed to us, having doubled down and reinvested thousands of dollars from the steadily rising ad revenue into writing new content. This includes countless hours’ worth of researching new keywords and targeting SEO. Therefore, this proves that perpetually putting your profits to work into making higher quality content works a treat at gaining more traffic to your site.
Looking Into The Data With Our Ezoic Review
Having now seen a rough figure of our income growth through monetizing a now-popular case study site, we’d like to take a closer look into the data for our Ezoic review. In this section, we’ll try to break things down by the foremost metrics to show the effectiveness and growth that we’ve gained since making the switch over to Ezoic. Mostly, we’ll be analyzing the actual ad revenue itself.
This will be a great place to get into the nitty-gritty of how Ezoic works and prove that it’s indeed the best ad network out there…
1. Ezoic Review Analysis #1 – Daily Ad Revenue
The first thing that we could look at is our daily ad revenue. It’ll show just how rapid the rise in profits has been ever since transitioning over to Ezoic from AdSense a while ago. In our first month with ads from Ezoic (October 2020), we’d already be noticing daily ad earnings of around $20 to $30. This was far higher than what AdSense would’ve normally brought in, which is in the single-digit territory.
Throughout the following months, our peak was the $50-mark in daily ad revenue, which was a pretty decent chunk of change. Where this really blew up was June 2021. In the few months since then, we would typically earn at least $200 through monetizing ads over a 24-hour period. It steadily rose to the $300 barrier and blew past that in late 2021. At this stage, $400+ was the benchmark.
Nowadays (March 2022, as of writing), our daily ad revenues are hovering between $500+ to $600+ on the best of days. In the coming months, we hope to see $700 per day and are keenly anticipating four digits rolling in every 24 hours. So, what happened? Once again, we can thank Ezoic for this, as its AI-powered ads have, by now, been able to tune itself perfectly to mix-max what’s on display.
Furthermore, our content strategy has a big part to play in this startling rise. We believe that the massive explosion in June 2021 was owed to a change in Google’s search algorithm. Seeing that we’ve worked hard at pumping out quality, long-form, and SEO-focused content, Google may have started looking a lot more favorably towards our case study domain. Hence, directing more traffic towards it.
2. Ezoic Review Analysis #2 – EPMV (Earnings Per Thousand Visitors)
Next up, we can take a look at our site’s EPMV. Or, ‘earnings per thousand visitors‘. Most of you may recognize its alternatives, such as ECPM (effective cost per thousand) or RPM (revenue per thousand). Sure, they all point to a similar metric – how much you’re earning on average for each visitor. Yet, the use of EPMV is a bonus in our case, as it’s a more accurate calculation to show your ad revenue.
This is so, as ECPM and RPM are tabulated for every 1,000 pageviews. On the other hand, EPMV (that Ezoic prefers to use) is a measurement of every visitor across all pages on your site, which could later be divided by 1,000 visitors across an entire month. Or to put it another way, ECPM and RPM tend to be more page-specific, which notes down how well a certain page is doing for every 1,000 visitors.
All the while, EPMV is a far more thorough analysis of the entire site as a whole. It could provide you with a holistic and all-encompassing point of view as to how your site is performing, as well as analyzing the behavioral pattern of your visitors.
For our case study domain, you can see in the snapshot up above that our previous 30 day’s EPMV is averaging in the high-$30s to the low-$40s range. This is a respectable increase from the sub-$20 EPMV that we were earning during the first months of our migration to Ezoic. We hope to see this expand into the $50 mark soon, as we continue to evolve and put more effort into releasing more content. Remember this screenshot was taken in the first quarter of the year, EPMV will increase by around a third towards the end of the year as demand increases.
3. Ezoic Review Analysis #3 – AdSense Mediation
Ah, but there’s something that we’ve omitted thus far in our Ezoic review… That’s the fact that every figure shown thus far doesn’t include AdSense. Yep, you heard us right, we haven’t abandoned them entirely just yet. If anything, we’re still earning handsomely, and this proves just how potent Ezoic’s mediation tools have been. This, we think, is one of the most clever services that Ezoic offers today.
Their so-called ‘mediation’ is a service where Ezoic would allow you to display ads from AdSense if the AI (Ezoic’s, of course) believes that you could earn more by showing Google’s ads than Ezoic’s own. In that sense, and once you turn this setting on, a particular page could earn ad revenue from AdSense and Ezoic altogether. It’s simply a matter of whose ads are more valuable at a given point in time.
Ezoic will analyze and cherry-pick this in real-time, so you wouldn’t really be losing out. Plus, a single page could mix and match ads from both providers. Across a monthly period (February-March 2022), it’s netted us a significant income, nonetheless. You can see here in our Ezoic review that within a month, we’re bringing in the equivalent of approximately $1,136. This comes in addition to the ad revenue from Ezoic.
If you’re already subscribed to a different ad provider, such as AdThrive or Mediavine, Ezoic also has a similar solution to mediation. By running your site through Ezoic, it can throttle a page to show Ezoic and AdThrive/Mediavine ads all at once. For example, you could set a page to monetize 50% through Ezoic, and 50% through your current ad provider. This is great if you’re just testing the waters. But you would of course be better off sending 100% of the traffic through to Ezoic.
4. Ezoic Review Analysis #4 – Ad Optimisation
Then, our Ezoic review will return the focus to the apparent AI and machine learning that Ezoic’s been employing to maximize the ads on our (case study) site. To understand how much ad revenue that we could be getting, we’ll have to analyze the number of ads that show up. After all, the more ads which appear on a page, the more visitors will have to scroll past, hence leading to higher returns for us.
Currently, we’re still automatically embedding ad placeholders every few paragraphs or so. But ultimately, it’s Ezoic’s AI and machine learning that will override this to determine the best locations to show adverts on a specific page. Not to mention, the number of ads that appear, what is to be displayed within the ads, and so forth. Usually, this is a meticulous process that takes time for Ezoic’s AI to get it right.
It’ll gradually learn to condition itself over a 12-week or so timeframe. Fascinatingly, Ezoic’s AI won’t just analyze behavior (read: how visitors interact with your site and ads) across the entire site. Its AI would adjust itself on a user-by-user basis. Depending on your reading or browsing habits within that site, Ezoic might show you just a few ads, if you’re someone who isn’t particularly bothered with it.
Or, it might display more than a dozen ads, if it finds that you regularly enjoy those ads. You can see the interesting analytics with our case study domain, as there’s a wide variance between the number of ads that pop up on a certain page. It could be as low as just 6 ads, or as high as 17. Its effectiveness in previewing the most relevant ads thus means that we’re seeing a lot of clickthrough, as well.
5. Ezoic Review Analysis #5 – Cache Hit Vs. Cache Miss
Caching is a crucially important tool in Ezoic’s arsenal and one that could make a huge difference in how much you’ll eventually earn. Simply put, caching is where a page on your website is saved, so it could load up more readily and quickly the next time around. This improves the loading times for said page, as well as accessibility to your site, which helps to improve the overall user experience.
Besides that, caching also aids in maximizing your site’s ad revenue as much as it can, by storing the most vital parts of a page. As you can see in this snippet, a cache ‘hit’ made 68% more in ad revenue compared to a cache ‘miss’. This does bring up the question of what’s a cache ‘hit’, and how does it differ from a cache ‘miss’? In short, it’s whether or not the caching for a page could be found.
For example, let’s say you tried to load up a page. A ‘hit’ entails that this page was loaded up from a saved cache somewhere, that was successfully fetched. Meanwhile, a ‘miss’ denotes that it had to be loaded up from scratch, which leads to slower load times. Additionally, it’ll bring in slightly less in ad earnings, as we’ve experienced it ourselves when we accidentally cleared the cache or need to clear it for maintenance.
This is down to the fact that cached pages load faster, which yields better SEO from Google. Thus, it leads to more traffic onto your site, and subsequently, higher returns. Although, Ezoic does provide you the ability to clear out the cache for the entire site, or for individual pages. This might become a necessity if your site isn’t performing well, or if the cache is causing technical problems to arise.
Note: If you use the Ezoic WordPress plugin when you update content the single URL that you updating will automatically get purged. So you don’t have to think much about the caching once setup.
6. Ezoic Review Analysis #6 – SEO-Focused, Long-Form Content
So, here’s an interesting bit of analytics, which ties in that higher ad revenue that we’re seeing to the content that our case study domain mainly features. This snapshot below shows the pageviews that we’re getting in relation to the word count for each page. As of this Ezoic review, you can see how the vast majority of the traffic leading into our site is attracted to those longer pages, with 2,500 to 5,000 words.
On the flip side, shorter pages with just 1,000 to 2,000 words generally pull in less traffic. For us, this is evident in the fact that higher word counts are viewed in a more positive light with Google’s search algorithms. At least, this applies to our case study domain, where we’ve outdone competing sites as far as word counts are considered. Most other publishers produce around half the volume of words.
Moreover, what’s worked well for us thus far is the combination of long-form content, and focusing highly on SEO and specific keywords. It’s been a substantial breadwinner for us, with more than 90% of visitors opting to read through our 3,000-word long guides. A key contributor to this, as we noted already, is SEO and keywords. We’ve put a lot of effort into writing around popular keywords.
On top of that, we’ve been studying what folks who searched for those terms are typically seeking, and then cover that within our lengthy walkthroughs. Compounding this effect is how we’ve reinvested a large portion of our Ezoic profits into making more of these articles, now touching 100 of them that are being published every month. As we write more, we hope to see higher returns, too.
Is Ezoic Worth It?
Thus far in our Ezoic review, we’ve embellished you with details of how much we’ve been able to earn these days through Ezoic’s ads. But given the relatively high cost, is Ezoic worth the expense? To give you a clearer picture, we should note that we’re subscribed to Ezoic’s Premium program. It allows us to attract big-name, A-tier advertisers onto our site, who would otherwise spend a whole lot more.
In that regard, it makes perfect sense to subscribe to it for your site, as well. That’s assuming that you can stomach the fees. Ezoic has a financial model where you’d be paying them upfront. However, you’ll only get the ad revenue after a 30-day period is over. Still, and despite all that hassle on top of the substantial cost to even get in, it’s a win-win nevertheless.
Their Premium program works out that you’ll be making at least 1/3 (33%) more in ad revenue than what you pay in fees. And, those ad earnings will continue to increase as your site grows. Plus, you’ll never lose, no matter what. If the Premium tier is too big of a bullet to bite, its entry-level services are just as valuable, with access to all of the goodies and perks that you get from Ezoic.
They’ll be more than happy to help integrate your site seamlessly with Ezoic, to be clear, the premium program is optional and invite-only. The base version of Ezoic has no upfront costs, they take 10% of the ad earnings, but you don’t see those ad earnings showing up in the reports, so it feels like a free service to be honest.
What If You’re A Smaller Publisher?
One of the biggest hurdles for smaller and upstart publishers is to even get onboard these ad network providers, especially premium ones. They each have minimum requirements that you’ll have to meet to be allowed to monetize through their platform. There’s a good reason why Google’s AdSense is as popular as it is. It’s simply down to the fact that their minimum requirements are fairly low.
Consequently, the downside is that AdSense isn’t able to monetize nearly as well as premium services like Ezoic, AdThrive, or Mediavine. So, how do these three compare? Well, the latter two post rather high barriers of entry, as we’ve detailed in the table below. This makes them inaccessible to much of the newer or tinier publishers, as you’ll need at least tens of thousands of pageviews to qualify.
Minimum Pageview Requirements | |
---|---|
Tools | Minimum Monthly Pageviews |
Ezoic | None (Access Now Program For Publishers With Less Than 10,000 Monthly Pageviews) |
AdThrive | Minimum 100,000 Monthly Pageviews, With A Majority Of Traffic From The US, Canada, UK, Australia, Or New Zealand |
Mediavine | Minimum 50,000 Monthly Sessions For Newer Users |
In stark contrast, Ezoic used to have a threshold of 10,000 monthly pageviews before you could then monetize with them. Nonetheless, they’ve since made it much easier for younger sites that have less than 10,000 monthly pageviews to enter. Through Ezoic’s Access Now program, everyone gets a fair chance. And, you’ll get a similar level of service and treatment as the larger publications do.
According to Ezoic’s estimates, the average rate of ad revenue growth across more than 2,000 small publishers in their Access Now program is an incredible 236% in just half a year. Granted, Ezoic does suggest that for optimal monetization, your site should have at least 1,000 monthly pageviews. But otherwise, Ezoic is a fantastic advertising platform to kickstart your website’s growth.
What Are Ezoic’s Other Features?
Aside from the leaps and bounds that Ezoic has been able to accomplish at maximizing ad revenue on our case study domain, there’s still more to cover! Online advertising isn’t Ezoic’s only business, as the basket of services which they provide is plentiful. Most of these beautifully complement monetization with nice-to-haves such as optimizing your site’s loading times or hosting rich media like videos.
Combined, we’d argue that most of your publication could be run and managed through Ezoic alone. Here are some of the best extra features and services you get by signing up to Ezoic… Not to mention there is even 100% free web hosting also.
1. Speed Optimisations Through LEAP
Ironically, Ezoic’s bread-and-butter, putting ads onto your site for monetization, is the very thing that usually slows down your webpage. In short, a site with no ads would undoubtedly load up eons faster than a site with 10 or 15 ads. Typically, the sluggish load times and performance while generally just scrolling around would otherwise deter visitors from your site. So, how can we solve this?
Well, Ezoic understands it more than anyone, which is why they offer a service known as, LEAP. Its job is to configure and re-jig your site’s back-end on the fly and make adjustments where necessary to help cut down on bloat and quicken up your webpage. It’ll also pass along analytics and suggestions on the main Ezoic dashboard about what you could do to improve your site’s overall performance.
For example, it might tell you to remove a couple of old plugins, or perhaps delete a few unwanted scripts. There are quick settings, which upon configuring it one way or the other, will implement a site-wide change. With these, you could load up fonts, scripts, and styles a bit quicker. Or, speed up the loading of photos and videos, not to mention caching pages to load them rapidly.
Elsewhere, you’ll find Ezoic’s tools for analyzing your publication’s Core Web Vitals. It could keep you informed of how long it would take to load a certain page. Plus, its measurements are done not just on desktop, but also show separate metrics for mobile and tablet-based browsers. This could help in highlighting the slowest loading pages on your site, looking at input delays, and so much more.
2. Big Data Analytics
Just like Google’s Analytics tool, Ezoic has a similar solution. If you look at them side-by-side, much of the information appears similar. However, Ezoic has a pretty unique way of bringing certain chunks of data to light and making you aware of them. For example, you can use Ezoic to look at detailed earnings information for ad revenue based on every single webpage.
This could be quite handy for sites like ours, where we’d have thousands of individual pages to scroll through. You could analyze a breakdown of your visitor’s behavior, an insight into how much time is being spent on your site, or their bounce rate. In addition, there’s exhaustive information on speed and performance metrics, the device that your readers are using, their native language, and so on.
3. Managing And Controlling Ads
Of course, Ezoic will have sub-features and additional services to best leverage its key product – ads. Some of their best ones include:
- Ad Tester – Here, you can tailor how ads are displayed on your page. Given time, Ezoic’s AI will manage the rest automatically. As more people flood Ezoic’s computer brain with information, Ezoic’s AI will be able to vary the placement, quantity, and type of ads to show the most relevant ones to your visitors. That same AI will continue to learn and adapt.
- Ad Charity – This is a great way to give back to folks who need it the most. In the world of advertising, multiple parties submit bids to win advertising spots. But what if the winning bidder didn’t have an ad ready? Normally, this would lead to the appearance of a blank ad placeholder. But with this feature turned on, it essentially allows Ezoic to fill that blank spot with an advertisement from charities (you still get paid and the blank spot is not seen by the reader).
- Native Ads – The bottom of any article is prime real-estate to embed ads. Although, they usually aren’t as effective or as relevant. By powering it through Ezoic’s network, they could instead fill in these with a series of ads that’s akin to your publication, but leading to other sites. They’re usually sponsored spots, which helps your audience to explore new things and helps to increase your ad revenue by 10%.
4. Ezoic Video Player
If you’re writing longer content as we do at our case study domain, it’s always nice to have videos to help break up the text. Or, to provide additional resources, guides, and information to readers. They’re both valuable for your publication’s audience, and on top of that, play well to improve your SEO with Google. That said, what if you’d rather not have your videos be uploaded through YouTube?
What if you wanted to include videos to supplement your pages, and have them monetized with ads at the same time? If that’s the case, then worry not, as Ezoic has its own video hosting service. You’d upload them as usual, as you would with YouTube videos, and embed them into a page.
Final Thoughts For Our Ezoic Review
Well then, that just about wraps it up for our Ezoic review. In all, Ezoic has given us an opportunity to continue doing what we love – writing stuff for you to enjoy. Both here for our Ezoic review, as well as with our case study domain. It’s fair to say that our growth and future plans may have been quite a bit more modest had it not been for the benefits that Ezoic’s offered us. Now, you could leverage those same tools, too.
It’s given us the chance to reinvest thousands of dollars into creating impactful content that (we very sincerely hope) has provided our audience with joy and value in the real world. Initially, our articles were very simple, but Ezoic’s monetization has afforded us to expand into newer and more exciting ventures. We now have a decent team of writers, all of them covering a wide variety of subjects and content.
We wouldn’t have been able to enjoy all of this without Ezoic’s ads. We’d highly doubt that we could have evolved this far on AdSense alone. In fact, not even Ezoic’s rivals like Mediavine or AdThrive, and being monetized on larger publications, have been able to outperform us. Plus, there’s a bountiful offering of extra solutions and services, which is the icing on the cake.
If that’s not sufficient for you to reconsider, they also feature a brilliant team of technical support agents and Publisher Success Managers to guide you on the right path. The only downside is just how odd and sometimes baffling the pricing model for the Premium program is. Otherwise, you can’t ever lose out with Ezoic. Knowing this, we’d highly recommend giving them a go or making the switch completely.
