I think we can call this a decently chunky uptick, as far as ad revenue is concerned. If you’ve been with us for a little while, then you’ll know that we’ve been running a case study on an unnamed domain on how much you could earn by switching over from AdSense to Ezoic’s premium ad network. So far, it’s been quite lucrative, having started with just $177 for all of September (our last month on AdSense).
In that following month of October 2020, it leaped to $606, before rising again in November to $961. A slight misconfiguration on our end saw December 2020’s ad revenue take a slight hit, down to $902. And, let’s not talk about January’s painful CPMs, as our earnings dipped to a mere $699. Still, at least it balanced out with higher ad earnings of $1,032 in February, in addition to $1,186 in March, and $1,203 in April.
So, how did we fare in May 2021? As we noted, quite a significant uptick, as our ad revenue through Ezoic’s premium ads rose a good bit to $1,678. In addition to this AdSense also will have paid us out a small amount, as we had Ezoic’s mediation tools turned on. This allowed us to earn mostly through Ezoic, but they’ll be able to pick and choose on the fly as to which provider could earn you more, such as Google’s AdSense.
Across the board, we’re noticing higher traffic throughout May, too. We had over 74,000 visits, as well as more than 86,000 pageviews. Within that figure, Ezoic classifies that over 54,000 of them are what they call ‘engaged’ pageviews. Or, folks who’ve spent a good amount of time (10 seconds or more) on the site, browsing around. Altogether, our ePMV (earnings per thousand visitors) rose to $22.65.
Key Figures
In essence, we’ve broken new ground in every metric, which is certainly good news. For example, we’d have more days in May where we’d earn at least $50 in daily ad earnings. This has been a pretty good month, to say the least. For comparison, May 2021 netted us 35% higher ad revenue on top of 35% more in ePMV compared to April. This is partly due to how ads generally trend as the year ticks on by.
The second quarter of the year has more folks bidding on ads after exhausting it all on the new year’s ad spots. With that in mind, we hope to see continually higher ad revenues through to the end of the year, here in 2021. For now, we’ll continue to work towards optimizing ads, maximizing our earnings, and tweaking our SEO-focused content. As of late, we’re putting up 20 or so long-form articles monthly.

As a whole, it’s a no-brainer to switch over to Ezoic if you’re still using AdSense. Once you turn on the mediation settings in Ezoic, it’s a win-win, regardless. Should you be reliant on other premium ads like AdThrive or Mediavine, Ezoic is more than happy to bet that you’ll earn more. They currently have a guarantee that sees you earning 25% more in ad revenue, or they’ll pay the difference back to you!
Furthermore, you could always dip your toes with both. There’s a neat throttling feature within Ezoic where you could earn through them, as well as AdThrive or Mediavine. For example, you could have it set so that 50% of ad placements and revenue come from Ezoic, while the other 50% are attributed to other ad networks. With all that in mind, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t switch to Ezoic today.
